Beans and Beers
Coffee is one of the most traded commodities globally and has fast become a social center point in countless cultures around the world. Beer, while quite directly opposing coffee's stimulation chemically, ties well into many of the same cultures and practices associated with coffee. Here we are going to look at the presence of coffee culture around the world, it's relationship with pub culture and the brewing history and practice of both. All while exploring the world from a vagabond's-eye-view.
My name is Kyle. My schoolmate Kaitlin and I will be traveling around the world studying coffee culture, pub culture, how they appear in different societies and how they interconnect with each other. We will be spending our time visiting 50 countries on all continents (save for Antarctica) and passing through all 50 US states. The out put of this whole adventure will be blogs documenting everything that goes on over the course of the year and a book to be published after everything is finished. It looks to be an entertaining year, but how well it goes depends a bit on all of you. As we travel, we will be (as is my style) couch surfing across the globe. This way we meet the locals and get a more accurate perspective on what life is like and how coffee/pub cultures are part of that life.
To that point, this mission means little without your input, so this is what I need of you, the world: If you have a favorite cafe, coffee house or pub anywhere in the world, tell us about it (where it is, what it's like, why it's your favorite etc), so that we can come to check it out and write about it. Second, if you have a story about that place, or a story of you and that place, send it our way, and if it's a good one, we will feature you on our blog or in our book.
If you want to help out with one or both of these, there are a handful of ways to get in touch in the Contact Us section.
